Switch Play
Drill
Purpose:
To practice
possession passing and switch passing.
Procedure:
Play is
in an area approximately 40x40 yards square, which is
"quartered", with small goals (without goalkeepers) diagonally
opposite each other. Five players play three defenders in one
quarter, while four versus three players wait in the other
quarter. The the five players play possession soccer until they
achieve a set number of consecutive passes, e.g. 3-6, whereupon
one of them can play a switch pass to a team-mate in the other
quarter zone. As soon as the pass is made, the nearest attacker
sets off to join his team-mates and make it a five-versus-three
game where they try to score in the small goal. Whether they
score or not, as soon as the attacking outcome is known, the
five attackers start a passing build-up again and look to switch
play back to the other quarter zone with a new player running to
link up. Change players over.
Development:
(a)
The coach can impose conditions, such as one or two-touch play.
(b) A set number of passes must be achieved before the switch
pass can be made. |
