Controlling
and Passing Break Out
Purpose:
To practice
general ball possession and timing of passes, and runs off the
ball.
Procedure:
Use an
area 50X20 yards, which is divided up so that there is a middle
10X20 yard zone. Thirteen players are arranged in the following
way: five attackers play possession soccer against two attackers
in the end zone. They must achieve a set number of consecutive
passes before a pass can be played by one of them into the
middle 'free zone' for another attacker to break out of his
square, collect the ball and run with it to the other end
square, linking up with four attackers to play five versus two
possession play. These five attackers play as before until the
reach the set number of passes, when one player breaks out to
link up with the other side again. The defenders are not allowed
in the middle zone, nor are the attackers allowed to dribble the
ball into it or stand waiting in the zone for the ball to
arrive. (Off-side rule can apply.)
Development:
(a)
Players can be conditioned to two, or even one-touch, play, or
the pass played into the central zone must be a specific type,
e.g. wall-pass or chipped pass.
(b) Extra players can be
introduced, or the dimensions of the practice area reduced, to
increase pressure on the group. |
