Diving
Sequence Drill
Purpose:
To develop
good diving technique
Procedure:
A
portable goal is set up in a diving area; the goalkeeper
positions himself in the centre of his goal a few yards in
advance of his goal line, with the coach facing him several
yards away. The coach serves him a set number of balls (6-12) or,
better still, goalkeepers work in pairs and one defends while
the other serves (they should change over after a set period).
The server should deliver a certain type of ball in a set
routine as follows: 1. a slow rolling ball; 2. a bouncing or
medium-height ball; 3. a slow high ball. The goalkeeper should
be stretched gradually by serving the ball further away each
time (remember to serve the ball to both sides of the
goalkeeper). He should also be made to use a set sequence of
defense techniques, which progressively gets more difficult,
e.g. (a) lying on his side; (b) sitting to face the ball; (c) on
one/both knees; (d) squatting down on his heels; (e) diving over
a ball or crouching player; (f) assuming a basic crouching
position.
Development:
(a)
The coach can have a competition between the goalkeeper, with a
set number of serves each or a set time limit.
(b) The coach can
introduce an opponent to stand near the goal and score if the
goalkeeper fails to save the ball correctly. |
